Greenway Lane, the Rocks, Sydney, NSW

Named after Francis Greenway, who arrived from England in 1814 as a gentleman - convict. He impressed Governor Macquarie with his building skills and was permited to open a private architectural practice in the area. He was granted a pardon in 1818 and went on to design many important Sydney buildings such as churches, district court and squares.
