Packed with practical information plus an excellent series of 'self assignments' to help you boost your output while you get to know your markets. A big focus on working with people, which is an option for everyone, regardless of your actual field of work... if photographers in your field don't usually include people in their compositions, there is a huge potential for anyone who does understand how to to it well when the opportunity presents...
This is more enjoyable reading than you might imagine... and it covers a lot of extremely important information we all need to understand better... copyright, trademarks, IP, contracts, privacy and more. Includes current real-world examples of cases, laws, and other news items. The Professional Photographer’s Legal Handbook is an essential tool for everyone who works in photography—and everyone who wants to.

This is an oldie, but one I go back to often, jsut to browse for ideas and inspiration. Aimed at both full-time freelancers looking for inspiration and part-time photographers wishing to build up a business, this work combines advice on markets and marketing along with photographic tips, techniques, set-ups and compositions. If you don't find a copy at this link, it's worth checking Amazon where 2nd hand copies turn up from time to time.

She covers establishing your brand, defining policies, setting prices, creating a marketing plan, networking, and a great deal more. Even if you don't grab the book it's definitely worth bookmarking her website for future reference.
