This vista image of the piazza shows how popular it is. Crowds gather to gain entry to the Doge's Palace and Bridge of Sighs (right), Saint Mark's Church (right background) and the Campanile tower (left). The clock tower (back centre) is a popular meeting place and the archway leads to the Rialto. The main quadrangle is to the left of the Campanile and is shown in the fourth image.

This image was taken early morning on the quiet canal, Rio di Palazzo. The Ponte de Sospiri, Bridge of Sighs is seen in the distance. Some of the images in this gallery were taken around 5am when all is still and peaceful. In some parts you can "hear a pin drop".

This pair of Lion Statues stand proud albeit weather beaten near the clock tower and St Mark's Basilica. The lion is an icon of Venice due to St Mark being represented by a winged lion, its figure adorns one of the columns at the forefront of the piazza.
