Stock Stock Images By Heather Farish

In north eastern Romania are the painted monasteries of Bucovina, close to in Suceava. The outside walls of these monasteries are adorned with 15th and 16th century frescoes featuring portraits of saints and prophets, scenes from the life of Jesus, images of angels and demons, and heaven and hell. Because of this unique Byzantine art, seven of these monasteries or churches are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites.
